The Story of Silk begins...
Discovery of Silk
A Chinese queen plucked and unraveled shiny, silky threads after a silkworm cocoon dropped into her tea cup. The beautiful and soft quality of silk has been widely used for garments and has become a noble symbol of luxury and elegance in the Eastern world.
Silk Road
It is a 5000-mile path from the East to the West, which serves not only a route merchants’ trade market, but also a trail to military conquest, a path of religious and cultural interchange, and a way for technological exploration.
The voyages through Silk Road started during the Han Dynasty (from 206 BC), flourished during Tang Dynasty, and ended in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1644).
Silk fabric is among one of ancient Chinese technological products exported to the West.
Other merchandises like spices, cloth, paper, porcelain, china, food and wine, music instruments, printing techniques, and many others were exchanged through this time period.
